This is a really nice station that would beget a perfect stocking stuffer for anyone who loved the movies aid in the day. It’s 20 movies on 4 discs. Urge times range from 52-72 minutes.

The digital restoration is very extensive and they clearly had some awful stock to work from. They scrutinize very tidy, but as is typical of extensive restoration there is some reduction in resolution at times. Sometimes you can watch a cramped blur where the dilapidated scratches are that were repaired -and there are many. Some reels are dazzling certain while others are a bit more blurry but nothing is intolerable in my thought.

The loss of resolution is most noticable in the darkest scenes. There are many gloomy scenes where it’s determined there wasn’t enough visual information to restore it to chubby light.

Despite everything, the movies are very watchable. My mother who saw all these movies every Saturday for a nickel was very blissful, as I put a question to most people of that generation would be with these discs.

Overall, the resolution is slightly better than VHS tape, but powerful lower than a typical, recent DVD. The sound was only very occasionally muddy and is really delicate top-notch for the most fragment. They’ve also got all the sound at a glowing consistent volume so there are no grievous changes in volume.

Considering the very economical trace, I’d say the site is well worth what you pay. I’d be a microscopic disappointed if it were an expensive place, but it’s OK for the money. If you’re tempted, I say go for it. You won’t be sorry. You acquire the stories and the characters honest blooming and that’s what’s primary.

A lot of folks don’t know that ROY ROGERS (Leonard Slye; 1911-1998) was born at approximately where 2nd obnoxious in Cincinnati’s archaic Riverfront Stadium would eventually be located. How American is that? It’s a wonder he didn’t emerge from the womb draped in The Stars And Stripes, holding aloft an apple pie smooth hot from “the oven” and whistling Yankee Doodle Dandy (or Capture Me Out To The Ballgame) . Roy Rogers was one of my mountainous heroes when I was a kid, and I can level-headed lift the pride with which I wore my knowing yellow raincoat with the dusky pictures printed on it of Roy (”King Of The Cowboys”), Trigger (”The Smartest Horse In The Movies”), and (”The Queen Of The West”) Dale Evans. I even had a microscopic schoolboy crush on Roy’s wife, Dale.

These passe “B” Westerns starring Roy were so wholesome and exuded such innocence that I can’t assist saddling up from time to time with my outmoded hero and revisiting a simpler, more worthy bygone time that won’t be riding our plan again. Heaven? Well, it can’t be remarkable better than lounging around unhurried on a Saturday morning in cotton flannel jamas, with hot coffee, and watching Roy round up rustlers. “Notice out slack that rock, Roy!” Too slow. Oh well, Roy will ultimately rep the fight (even if he does consistently “tumble” for that leg sweep trick) because the superior guys and poor guys are always clearly delineated in “B” Westerns and the advantageous guys always salvage. And what’s unfavorable wit dat?

In 1990, my girlfriend and I self-published “CALAMITY CAT’S AND Dusky COLE KID’S UNCOMPLICATED GUIDE TO WESTERN MOVIES FOR THE SIMPLE-MINDED COWPERSON.” It’s quite a collector’s item now; I’ve even heard of some copies selling for as mighty as ten cents! Calamity Cat and I saw every Western you can judge of (and plenty that you can’t) . On September 7, 1990, we drove out to the Roy Rogers Museum in Victorville, California, and since The Suited Lord had taken a liking to us, we actually met Roy and Dale. I recognized that distinctive “double rolled” crown of his cowboy hat as he drove past in a van. “It’s him!” I yelled. “Sever him off at the pass!” Calamity demanded. I was really going to attempt to box him into the parking lot with my car (Calamity and I were both temporarily insane), but he pulled over of his hold volition.

When Roy said he no longer signed autographs, Calamity and I were crushed. He added, “But we’ll be cheerful to have our relate taken with you.” Yeah determined. We watched Roy work the crowd for awhile and then as someone started to hustle him off, he stopped and said, “Wait! You two wanted a recount, didn’t you? ” We couldn’t hold it! He and Dale posed with us and Roy insisted that a second shot be taken for insurance. (I later tried to feed Trigger a handful of oats but he refused to choose a bite as he was already stuffed.) We were so enthusiastic to scrutinize the pictures that Calamity and I went to a one-hour photo joint in Victorville and waited while the film was processed.

Roy Rogers was probably the most celebrated of the venerable “singing cowboys”, but don’t produce the mistake of thinking that the “singing” fraction was unbiased a movie production gimmick. Roy was a founding member of the famous and influential Country-Western group THE SONS OF THE PIONEERS, and he had a d*mn comely tell and really knew how to swing. There was nothing “B” about Roy’s vocals, no sir – he was the dependable McCoy when it came to music. And by all accounts, one of the nicest gentlemen in the history of Hollywood. (But then there’s never been a lot of competition in Tinsel Town in that department.)

Although the audio/visual quality of some of these broken-down prints is shapely veteran at times (sight Slash Damato’s kindly review on this product page for more on this), you’re getting 20 of Roy’s classic Westerns (2 in Trucolor – which is something of a dinky fib) for a dern shameful stamp. Will you win a better deal anywhere? “Neigh.” Included is 1944’s historic “COWBOY AND THE SENORITA” (the first time Roy and Dale appeared in a film together) and perennial favorites of the Roy Rogers fan clubs, “KING OF THE COWBOYS”, “ROBIN HOOD OF THE PECOS”, and “MY PAL TRIGGER” which chronicles the birth of Roy’s notorious palomino.

For this itsy-bitsy wrangler, the inclusion of my three celebrated R.R. pictures alone made this DVD worth the price:

“HELDORADO” has Nevada Ranger Roy tracking counterfeiters in Las Vegas. It includes the quintessential outmoded coot sidekick, GABBY HAYES (”Pershnickety females!”) ; the rubber-faced pre-Jim Carrey Jim Carrey, PAT BRADY, who sings the wonderfully funny “I’m A High-strung Lad”; Roy’s gigantic line when he rescues Dale from a locked refrigerator (I won’t spoil it) ; and concludes with an astonishing shot of what downtown Las Vegas looked like in 1946!

BELLS OF SAN ANGELO (1942; in Trucolor) has some broad songs (including THE SONS OF THE PIONEERS doing “Slothful Day” and Brady’s manic antics over “Hot Lead.”)

And I inform my common is “UNDER CALIFORNIA STARS” (1948; in Trucolor) which in a sense is an archetypal “B” Western. It commemorated Roy’s 10th anniversary in motion pictures and he and THE SONS revisited “Dust”, the featured song in Roy’s very first movie. The memoir revolves around the kidnapping of Trigger; a lame cramped boy, Ted; and his scruffy ragamuffin dog named … what else? … Tramp. At one point, Trigger stomps on the face of a prostrated “inflatable” villain (HOO!-HOO!-HOO! Gape in dreary motion for capital “B”, Terrible special finish laughter) and this movie contains perhaps the meanest, most downright ornery thing Roy ever uttered on the silver conceal … brace yourself now: “IT’S TOO Awful A KID LIKE TED HAD TO Salvage HIMSELF MIXED UP WITH A NO Safe GUY LIKE YOU!” But don’t pains, Roy will eventually obtain Trigger help and accumulate the best doctor in the country to heal Ted’s leg. Everything’s Gonna Be OK.

Unfortunately, the Mill Creek Entertainment company felt it essential to prove their logo in the bottom apt corner of the shroud every so often, but really, what does that matter? I mean, you’re viewing movies in which the helpful guys journey the unpleasant guys on horseback around the very same rock formations from one movie to the next (peer them boulders, some of them are like recurring characters!)

Nevertheless, mind your tongue around me; as I wrote in the out-of-print Western movie guide that Calamity Cat and I created: “Let me spell it out for you … I don’t give an armadillo’s tail in Texas what you judge of his movies, but you best not say not nice things about MY Mr. Rogers when I’m around, lest your b*tt and my metal-tipped cowboy boots procure acquainted!”

Every 4th of July I study “1776,” the musical that has our Founding Fathers singing and dancing their contrivance to Independency, and every time John and Abagail Adams lisp goodbye to each other (”Till Then” and “Yours, Yours, Yours”), I rep choked up. William Daniels has his role of a lifetime as John Adams, the sinful and disliked Massachusetts delegate to the Continental Congress who is the most involved advocate of independence (”Piddle, Twiddle and Determine”) . Virginia Vestoff plays his wife Abigail, and their exchanges are based on the “Dearest Friend” correspondences they wrote to each other during the crucial summer of 1776. However, the most unforgettable performance in “1776″ comes from Howard Da Silva as Dr. Benjamin Franklin. The actor, who played movie villains for years, manages to protest not only Franklin’s wit but also his firm plan in the novel run of “Americans.” Ken Howard plays Thomas Jefferson and joins with Adams and Franklin in the show’s two cutest numbers, “But, Mr. Adams” and “The Egg.” I have never cottoned “The Lees of Ancient Virginia,” the song sung by Richard Henry Lee (Ron Holgate) and where every lyric line ends with “LY,” but at the other kill of the spectrum is the chilling “Molasses to Rum to Slaves,” the song about the Triangle Trade sung by South Carolina’s Edward Rutledge (John Cullum) . The ensemble cast brings the Second Continental Congress alive, with Roy Poole as Stephen Hopkins, David Ford as John Hancock and William Hansen as Caesar Rodney standing out. Most of the cast members were in the Tony Award winning new Broadway cast, although Blythe Danner replaces Betty Buckley as Martha Jefferson (”He Plays the Violin”) .

Peter Stone’s book is remarkably right in relating the historical events; the biggest error a historian would point to is that John Dickinson (Donald Nettle), did not display up the day of the crucial vote so that Pennsylvania would not ruin Independence. But Broadway and Hollywood must be allowed to beget things more dramatic. What makes “1776″ so fabulous is how it teaches history while being so intelligent. The opening of the film, where the tirade by Mr. Adams against the do nothing Continental Congress is interrupted by the collective Founding Fathers jumping up and singing “Sit Down, John,” sets the tone and Peter H. Hunt’s film delivers throughout. The show’s best moment comes in “Is Anybody There? ” when John Adams, all alone in the unruffled chamber, dreams of the pomp and pageantry of a free America.

I also have the laserdisc version, which runs 176 minutes and includes 35 minutes of material originally lop from the film, including the song “Icy, Considerate Men” and alternative shots in several sequences. While the quality of the additional material is in very dark shape, fans of “1776″ will buy what they can procure. Hopefully the complete film can be restored before we accept to the DVD version (hint, hint, hint) . Granted, the concept of a musical about the Declaration of Independence seems bizarre; I once blew off a chance to observe “1776″ on stage because I plan the plan was dead. But this is a favorable musical that makes the time and issues reach alive, so that even concept we obviously know the outcome, we are enthralled because it looks like Mr. Adams will never net his Declaration adopted. If you are looking for a film to look each 4th of July, “1776″ is the one.

First, let me say that I’m not a vast fan of movie musicals. However, I’ve always made an exception for 1776. I express it’s my abiding interest in history, and in the common presentation of history, that keeps me coming support to this film. For the uninitiated, 1776 is the tale of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, and was first presented on Broadway in the gradual 1960s. Station in Philadelphia in June and early July of 1776, the action centers around John Adams’s attempt to score a reluctant Continental Congress to converse the 13 colonies independent of Huge Britain. Adams, and his allies (including Ben Franklin and Thomas Jefferson), is opposed at every step by the conservatives in Congress, led by John Dickinson of Pennsylvania. Although we know the ending, it is to scriptwriter Peter Stone’s credit that we realize things may have turned out rather differently.

My first recorded version of this movie was taped off of a local television set that had drastically edited it for length and voice. When I finally got around to buying the VHS version of 1776, I was amazed at what had been left out, particularly when it came to the earthier dialogue. Imagine my reaction to the recent DVD director’s cleave edition of this musical; it was like watching a completely current movie. Bridging scenes that had been edited out now provide a nearly seamless memoir hobble, and the musical number “Wintry, Considerate Men” has been restored, providing for greater balance between the conservatives and radicals in Congress.

The cast, a number of whom reprise their roles from the Broadway production, is nearly flawless. William Daniels IS John Adams, hard-headed, driven, passionate, “rotten and disliked”. Howard da Silva is equally effective as Benjamin Franklin, elder statesman and earthy man-of-the-world, while the rest of the actors do very well by their characters. Of necessity, the film’s emphasis is on Congress, and therefore on the male of the species; women are shrimp to two roles–Martha Jefferson, played by Blythe Danner, and Abigail Adams, played by Virginia Vestoff. Of Danner’s role, there is microscopic to say beyond the fact that the actress is a quick-witted cover presence. Vestoff, on the other hand, has a rather more gargantuan role as John Adams’s wife, confidant, and sounding board. The film effectively portrays the correspondence between John and Abigail, a partnership that was, in many ways, much in American history.

Director Peter Hunt keeps things fascinating along at a engaging scramble, propelled by the music of Sherman Edwards, who also wrote the lyrics. It’s hard to seize a accepted song, but two stand out in my mind–the chilling “Molasses to Rum to Slaves” and the poignant “Mamma, Recognize Appealing”. The old underlines the flawed nature of the American Experiment–that a recent nation established on the principle that “all men are created equal” would also retain hundreds of thousands of people in chains. The latter song brings home the fact that while Congress engages in endless debates, men (and boys) are dying on the field of battle.

I could dwell at some length on the historical inaccuracies embodied in this movie–the character of Think Wilson, for one, and that of Richard Henry Lee, for another. However, purism aside, what 1776 makes positive is objective what a end race thing independence really was, that there was, indeed, a vital proportion of Americans (and their representatives) who wished to remain true to the British crown. Better yet, the Founding Fathers are portrayed mot as marble men, but as the passionate, flawed, flesh-and-blood individuals they were.

I’ve seen Domingo fabricate Otello live about 24 times including being in the audience the night this was filmed as well as opening night. This was the most magical night in all my years of going to opera. The electric energy flying around the stage between the principals and the audience was almost unbearable. While waiting in line to gawk Renee backstage, the prompter (she has been with the Met some 40 years) asked if we had seen the opening night performance and we answered in the affirmative and she said “Well, I consider tonight was better, in fact, I contemplate it is the best performance of Otello I’ve ever seen!” And, I figure she’s seen a few including those of Domingo. His acting in this performance is splendid! He is Otello! James Morris was manipulative, gross and charming at the same time. Renee was a wonder! In fact the reviewer at the time for the L. A. Times said it should have been called “Desdemona” so enchanted with her performance was he. She had unprejudiced given birth to her second daughter 3 weeks earlier and apologized to us for greeting us in her dressing room sitting down! After she falls on the floor, sings on the floor, runs and puts her entire heart and soul into her performance! The lady was forgiven! Domingo was in an extremely kindly mood after an opera that usually totally exhausts him! He knew that this was a very special performance. Thank you Met for broadcasting this as I peruse it frequently and my tape is almost old out! I’ve been waiting for this opera to be released as one of the most outstanding productions and casts ever of my well-liked opera and now they have done it! If you can only select one DVD this year, manufacture it this one! Also, it’s history, as you’ll never peep him again, or anyone else, I wager, that can advance finish to capturing the character and singing it as well as he does. This is opera magic!!!

This DVD is a novel release of a video Otello starring Placido Domingo in the title role. On DVD, there are already at least 3 of his Otellos, but this one surpasses them all.

Domingo is outstanding, a bit better than in the Covent Garden production. He is in spacious snarl, singing and acting magnificiently. There are some few strained passages (”vil cortigiana”, “venere splende”) but somehow they arrive out piquant as well.

Morris and Fleming are of equal greatness. Morris has played an deplorable, manipulant Iago in his allege, and Fleming as Desdemona is the best I have ever heard.

Levine as conductor is spacious as well. His job must have been “easier” with this amazing cast.

The overall “movie impression” is worth of a mammoth Hollywood fraction of art. Not only is the singing outstanding but the acting of all the cast is extraordinary. I have never seen that before in any other opera DVD. When Otello slaps Desdemona you would actually jump of your seat as I’ve never seen such a realistic scene. Otello’s fainting in the 3d act couldn’t be more realistic. This list is long and encompasses the “Esultate”, the act1 like scene, “Ora e per sempre”….and all the tremendous ones.

At the waste of the performance, you couldn’t but join your screaming and cheers to those of the Met crowd.

Finally, a lot collected argue about Domingo in the title role, and compare him to Vickers and Del Monaco. While everyone has his fill idea on the subject, let’s be fair for a second:

Del Monaco’s DVD in sad and White with lips dilemma cannot compare to this advantageous DVD production. Vicker’s with Karajan has cuts, dreadful overall acting, and again lips spot, even though performance is wonderful.

This is the BEST AVAILABLE OTELLO DVD (to date, I have said that same sentence when reviewing Covent Garden’s.)

I highly Recommend it!

I have long been a fan of your company and the radiant treatment it gives to movies. I originally purchased one of my all time accepted movies, The Last Emperor earlier this year when it was given the deluxe 4 disc treatment, I was thrilled with all of the extras that were included. I was most impressed that both versions of the movie were included for me to chose from. When it was announced that it was coming to Blu-ray, I sold my copy and was waiting to upgrade. I was! I have learned that the 165 min. version is the only one that will be included on the Blu-ray and not the 218 min (my preferred version) slit. WHY, WHY WHY? I am gloomy to say, that if this is indeed really good, I will not be upgrading to the Blu-ray version since this would in fact be considered a step down from the standard DVD edition. Why give us a mammoth product initially, but then short change us on the Blu-ray upgrade, How black!!!

When we made the special edition dvd of The Last Emperor, we pulled out the stops. The film won nine Academy Awards – from best report and director to production get and editing. On top of that, it was the first international film of this scale produced in China, and that legend in and of itself was fantastic. In short, all aspects of the film merited attention and discussion. In addition to the director’s cleave of the film — the modern theatrical version — we gave an entire disc to the longer Italian television version of the film for comparison. We also included an clarify wander book and slipcase to believe the four disc residence. Although the spot was expensive, at $59.95, it was as end to definitive as we could do it, and we felt it offered apt value.

When it came time to manufacture the Blu-ray edition, we felt strongly that a single-disc edition containing all the added remark of the four-disc version would offer our customers the best version of the film, the best value, and the best user experience. Having addressed the anecdote that the television version is the director’s slice with our DVD box state, we didn’t feel that including it as an extra Blu-ray disc was worth the added cost to the customer. Similarly, because the Blu-ray market station is tranquil grand smaller than the market for DVDs, the cost per copy of printing Blu-ray sized perfect-bound books would have driven the effect of our edition up to a level we considered prohibitively expensive for consumers.

We also know that many or our customers already fill the unusual dvd state. For them we are offering an upgrade program that will allow them to have the director’s preferred version of the film on Blu-ray, while keeping the rest of the new package. Unbiased send in your disc 1 and we’ll send you the blu-ray disc for a $20 (+ $5 shipping and handling) replacement fee. If you are sure to have all the inform of the DVD edition as well as the Blu-ray disc pronounce, you could always go that route — occupy the DVD state and trade in disc 1 for a Blu-ray. In the slay I believe the cost would calm be less than we would have had to charge to design an all Blu-ray version of our new edition.

This review is not so grand a review of the movie or this release in particular. It would seem that there will be no shortage of fine reviews of this movie and I would unbiased be adding my relate to the gale winds of appraise. I write this to certain up the accepted mis-perception that the longer cleave of this movie is a director’s nick.

The previously released longer slice of The Last Emperor which was released on DVD and subsequently labeled as a “Director’s Carve” is in fact a longer, made for television mini-series version that was made to satisfy a particular distribution/production deal. Bertolucci himself has gone on relate to say that the true version of the film that he envisioned is the one that went out to theaters, thereby making the shorter “Theatrical Chop” the genuine director’s lop.

Being the broad fan of this movie that I am, I can’t serve but want more of this movie, but I’d be lying if I said that the shorter version isn’t big impartial as it is. The movie does not lose any of its magic without the added assert. I’ve given this review a 4 star rating because of the completist in me. If there are two versions of a movie out there. I would relish the option of playing the version that I want. Criterion did so with their DVD release, but failed to do it with their Blu-ray release. Welcome to double-dip country. As of this writing, I mild have not distinct if I shall descend prey to their marketing ploy since I have been waiting so long for a righteous transfer of this film.

I am one of those geeks who was ten years traditional when Star Wars came out (note: it was not originally called “Episode IV.”) I watched it in the theater perhaps a dozen times. It was the most improbable thing I had ever seen.

This release contains two DVDs: the version that Lucas has been tinkering with, and on a bonus disc, the novel movie in 4:3 letterbox, taken from the best-available videodisc masters.

About that “tinkering.” The 2004 version of Episode 4 looks, for the most portion, quite attractive. The _restoration_ that Lucasfilm did is impressive: the blacks are blacker, the whites whiter, the color richer, the incompatibility improved all around, and the soundtrack is stout. The dirt and scratches are gone, the shaky color very solid.

However, at some point Lucas crossed over from “restoration” into making a novel movie. That’s fine; he has the upright to do so. But for him to say that the current Star Wars is not really what he had in mind, when it was one of the most renowned and accepted movies in history and became entrenched in the culture — well, I acquire that weirdly arrogant. And when he says, in execute, that his altered version _is_ “Star Wars” and the current _isn’t_ — well, hmmm. A movie is a historical artifact. I’m not certain why they all became pink in 2004. Why did he feel that Alderaan and the Death Star needed to explode in giant rings? Why do the lightsabers now give off blinding green flashes when they collide? Most of these changes are not improvements; they are objective distractions. They tend to stick out like a sore thumb to fans who have seen the movie many times.

But there are more than impartial the limited arbitrary changes, I’m not really delighted with the addition of dinosaur-like creatures in Mos Eisley, and I’m really not jubilant with giving these limited bits and pieces cartoonish _sound_ that sounds like it came from Episode 1. Star Wars, the modern, had a different tone, a different mood, than Empire and Jedi and the whole prequel trilogy. It’s a runt darker. It’s a world where rebels and stormtroopers are violently killed and Han Solo shoots first. Lucas is free to build that world happier and more cartoonish in his later films, but altering, and in some cases censoring violence from the novel, is a very odd thing to do.

So, although I really cherish the improvements to the image and sound in the 2004 edition, I generally pick watching the novel 1977 carve. For that, I’m sorry to portray that the digital transfer, from the videodisc master, is only adequate. Many fans are griping that it is 4:3 instead of anamorphic 19:9. This means it isn’t full-width on a widescreen TV. That doesn’t particularly bother me, but I’m viewing it on an frail TV, not a widescreen TV. It looks like a very genuine analog videotape, but we’ve recently — and rather abruptly, in terms of years — gotten stale to DVDs of films that were transferred to the digital realm and mastered there. It’s actually taken from the master for the analog videodisc. The audio is satisfactory, but again we now tend to compare it to all-digital productions. Negative comments on Amazon about the gloomy level are on the mark; some of the spot scenes design dusky outer area notice brown, or gray. This is particularly evident when we explore Vader’s helmet in his tie fighter; his helmet is blacker than the shaded background of location. But that is accurate in the novel film; it was noticeable in the theater on opening day. A number of the desert scenes have abominable dissimilarity and used color; some of this is film deterioration, and some is because the inequity and color in some of the outdoor Tatooine scenes were never that gracious to inaugurate with. There are noticeable scratches. The color is shaky in some scenes, particularly outdoor scenes, and flickers a bit. It looks like a film that is considerably older than it is. I’ve seen restored films from considerably earlier that gape a lot better than this one does.

Here’s the thing: it didn’t have to be this procedure. We would have considered it to be a fairly qualified video rendering at one point in time. But our expectations have been raised considerably — and, in fact, Lucas himself is largely responsible for raising those expectations, because of his constant embrace of unique technology for delivering films to audiences. The 2004 DVD release has all those sunless level problems fixed. There aren’t any visible scratches. The inequity is superior. The colors are intelligent. The missing dialog is restored.

So which version do I want to explore? Well, the retort is neither. I want to leer a version that doesn’t exist: call it “Star Wars: the Nostalgia Edition.” That version would be fully _restored_, but not _altered_. And it would have things like Han Solo’s scene with Jabba available as a “deleted scene” special feature, along with all the other so-called lost footage such as the scene at Anchorhead, which introduces (and makes sense of) Luke’s relationship with Biggs. It would have been presented with respect for the unusual work, not as a bonus disc given no special treatment. Instead, Lucas has disowned that portray.

And here’s the thing: I’d be shy if Lucas didn’t have every scene, unaltered, from the first film in beautifully restored digital produce. After all, wouldn’t a restored unusual film have been the starting point for this whole process of remastering that led to the 1997 and 2004 versions?

So, I’m not actually advocating that we give up the advances in restoration that are evident in the 2004 release. But don’t bother with the tinkering. The fans don’t care about it. You peek it if you are looking at the frame cynically, not when you are immersed in the record. It might be an irritant to Lucas now, but it is the enact we grew up with. For the “Nostalgia Edition,” let Star Wars be Star Wars.

Believe it or not, George Lucas was not the only person fervent in the making of these movies. Ask Ralph McQuarrie, John Dykstra, Gary Kurtz, Rick Baker, or Marcia Lucas. Star Wars (what Lucas now calls A Unusual Hope) is a huge movie that represents some of the best filmmaking of the 1970’s. What Lucas is doing is completely disrespectful to all of those people that were interested in the process of making those films. He’s completely disregarding their work and dishonoring their memory.

By the draw, last weekend I watched the “2004 version” and I didn’t reflect it held up. The scene where Luke and Ben enter Mos Eisley looks too busy and too cartoon-like, in other words, like CGI. The novel scene with Jabba: it’s redundant. It’s a almost a word-for-word retread of the Greedo scene.

Lynne Hale of Lucasfilm also said, “We want you to be aware that we have no plans – now or in the future – to restore the earlier versions.

We hope you will understand our decision and, again, want to let you know how remarkable we be pleased your interest and enthusiasm.”

Okay Lynne Hale and George Lucas, I want you to be aware that I have no plans – now or in the future – to buy your dreadful quality versions of the recent movies. Furthermore, I and my family will NEVER exhaust another dime on any of your future movies.

Lucasfilm is a multi-billion dollar company and it’s not willing to exercise an extra hundred big to originate it’s product better and it’s fans satisfied with an anamorphic print?

Well Lucasfilm, we hope you will understand our decision and, again, want to let you know how great we don’t luxuriate in your lack of interest and enthusiasm.

What is presented in this documentary is primarily interviews with those who knew or worked with Jung and those individuals interviewed such as Marie-Louise Von Franz, Laurens Van Der Post and Aniela Jaffe are quite primitive as they search their memories to give us a glance into the persona of the astronomical psychoanalysist.

As I child I loved Davey and Goliath. I have to admit I peaceful do at 52. This series teaches well-behaved manners, kindness, telling the truth, how to treat others and be mindful of their feelings. Not to assume what isn’t yours, obedience to parents, how cheating is inappropriate. All the things that any god parent would want for themselves.

It doesn’t preach or talk about any certian churches. It is not talking about salvation and hell..nothing like that. It is produced by the Evangelical Lutheran Church but you hear nothing of that in the programs.

I highly recommend this to every parent.

A friend of mine gave me this collection to my four year worn. I must admit that I was fair as eager in watching these cartoons as my son, in that I grew up on “Davey and Goliath” and I hadn’t seen them in years (I don’t know why the networks don’t indicate D&G on TV anymore.)

In any case, these cartoons are better than I remember. My four year obsolete loves the cartoons. They are enchanting and they occupy favorable, wholesome, non-violent stories; which also touch upon Christian values such as forgiveness and telling the truth.

These cartoons were produced by the Lutheran Church, but they can accomidate any Protestant denomination, and even (I imagine) the Roman Catholics. My wife and I are Methodist, but the friend who gave me this collection is Catholic and he said that he bought a site for his occupy kids. I also grew up in a heavily Catholic neighborhood, and all my friends who were Catholic worn to glimpse D&G as well. It’s objective ample shapely fun for family members of all ages. It might also provide an oppurtunity to discuss religious and honest values with children at home or in Sunday school or CCD classes.

The only converse I have is as follows: I vaguely remember an Easter episode that is not included in this residence. There is a Christmas, Recent Year and Halloween episode, but no Easter special. Other than that: splendid memories that I can be pleased all over again with my miniature boy.

It’s colossal to finally have this movie on video in the widescreen format. However, I am disappointed that the deleted scenes which were advertised here and on MGM’s official website are not on this DVD. It would have been nice to plan them but I guess MGM decided not to release them at the last tiny (perhaps a special edition DVD is in the works in the approach future) or Coppola didn’t allow MGM to release them. Perhaps he’s planning to extend this film like he did with Apocalypse Now. Anyway, despite the missing deleted scenes, it’s broad to study this film again in its new aspect ratio with the theatrical trailer which ironically has brief moments of scenes that were deleted from the film.

The lines between jazz, bootlegging and speed are blurred in Francis Ford Coppolas’s improbable 1984 feature place during the slow 20’s and early 30’s in Harlem, NYC at the world renowned Cotton Club. At long last, MGM has finally released The Cotton Club on its “Contemporary Classics” series. What this means is that die hard fans will procure a reasonably priced DVD in the widescreen format but with virtually no extras included. MGM is eminent for being stingy on their DVDs. The theatrical trailer is included. You can glimpse the film in French or read French or Spanish subtitles. Nice hard case but only a card listing the cast and a brief description of the film, no booklet. As for deleted scenes: well, there aren’t any. Unless you included a brief shot during the trailer or an exchange between Vince (Prick Cage) and Dixie (Richard Gere) in which Dixie asks “Why were you fighting niggers? ” when he said “Why were you fighting the coloreds? ” in the earlier version. This is not a restored version and the color has tinges of red from proceed in indoor scenes, a few light scratches also visible. Calm, one of the best movies ever. Astonishing musical scenes and a terrific cast featuring Gere, Diane Lane, Bob Hoskins, Lonette McKee, and Gregory and Maurice Hines. Usually venerable on for costing too distinguished (it lost money in the theatre and was the most expensive film for its time) but for first time viewers (and there are a lot of you out there), I contemplate you’ll be pleasantly surprised. A must have for lovers of the film, but we can only hope a restored director’s chop DVD with some of the many scenes that were nick from the film along with some commentary from the pricipals will be released in the future. Until then, like this version and be wowed for 2 hours and 9 minutes.

This movie features the whole Mystery, Inc. gang, although Scooby and Shaggy feature prominently in the first half. The duo gets stranded in the Himalayas with some locals, and they all soon meet up with the terrible snowman. My son (age 4) likes this one, but it’s not his well-liked, since he seems to lift the ones with scarier monsters (ghost pirates and mummies as seen in other Scooby movies) . This one does have some icy original music, and it even features a comic scene where Shaggy (aka Casey Kaseem) tries his hand a being a d.j. It’s a clever nod to those of us who remember Casey’s days on the radio. Finally, the resolution of “who is the unpleasant snowman? ” turns out to be typical Scooby.

Great movie – I fancy the fact that Shaggy (who’s remark is done by the legendary Casey Kasem) gets to do a radio DJ point to – classic!!
